Inaugurated in July 2017, Il Marina, the new port in Capo d’Orlando overlooking the northern coast of Sicily just 14 miles from the Aeolian Islands.
The port is a modern and highly prestigious work based on integration and harmony between various elements such as the environment, aesthetics and functionality. A new place that offers various services such as bars and restaurants offering beautiful and excellent aperitifs facing the sea, all kinds of shops and parking lots. Furthermore, within the port itself there is a protected archaeological site with pedestrian routes.
As in all places there are unmissable places and for a stay in Capo d’Orlando you definitely have to go to the beach.
The first day we propose you to go to enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches, the beach of San Gregorio, this is absolutely one of the most beautiful beaches in the area characterized by a deep and suggestive inlet and pebble beach and pebbles, the crystal clear sea It is ideal for snorkelling thanks to the deep seabed and the numerous species of fish present.
Near the beach there is a Roman archaeological site “Le terme romane di Bagnoli” that you can visit for free.
The second day, depending on your tastes and weather, you can choose whether to go to visit one of the Aeolian Islands or visit the shrine of the Madonna, climbing the many steps you can admire a breathtaking scenery, the city from above and the sea, arriving at the top of the mountain will be able to admire the beauty of the castle only from the outside because unfortunately no longer accessible to the public and therefore only visit the monastery of the Madonna.
In the evening I recommend the long walk along the promenade of the village, a candlelight dinner and a visit to the lighthouse. The third day the choice falls on the sea or on the Wood of Amola, a place surrounded by greenery where you can take walks and a picnic and reach a wonderful waterfall of natural water.
If you have decided to spend 5 days in Capo d’Orlando is recommended to add to the stages of the first 3 days a visit to Villa Piccolo, the museum house located on the hills of Capo d’Orlando that will open the doors to visit the interior of the house of the Piccolo brothers and Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. A guide will take you inside the villa and will show you and illustrate the various environments where you can admire precious collections of ceramics, paintings, a library with ancient volumes with period documents and the historical archive, also on the ground floor of the house you will find the collection of “magic watercolors” painted by Piccolo himself.
You can also take the Goletta trail (1,200 kilometers of walk), a fascinating path for nature lovers that connects Piazza Tullio Trifilò with Piazzetta San Gregorio.
The town of Capo d’Orlando is characterized by a beautiful promenade where you can take long walks that offers all the necessary services such as shops, bars, restaurants and small kiosks where you can eat and relax in front of the beautiful Sicilian sea, but if you spend a week in this beautiful country I would recommend you go at least one day to the Aeolian Islands or take a small tour of some of these islands (Vulcano, Alicudi, Filicudi, Salina, Panarea, Lipari and Stromboli) to reach them just go to the port of Milazzo that it is only an hour from Capo d’Orlando.
